A Philosopher And a Clown

Today would have been Bill Hicks’ 50th birthday. So I feel like posting his apt message for humanity. Sadly, it is still relevant even today. 😦

It’s Just A Ride by Bill Hicks

The world is like a ride at an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it, you think it’s real, because that’s how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round and it has thrills and chills and it’s very brightly colored and it’s very loud. And it’s fun, for a while.

Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: ‘Is this real? Or is this just a ride?’ And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and they say ‘Hey! Don’t worry, don’t be afraid — ever — because… this is just a ride.’ And we kill those people.

‘Shut him up! We have a lot invested in this ride! Shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry; look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real.’ It’s just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that — ever notice that? — and we let the demons run amok. But it doesn’t matter, because… IT’S JUST A RIDE, and we can change it any time we want. It’s only a choice. No effort. No worry. No job. No savings and money. Just a choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door, buy bigger guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one.

Here’s what we can do to change the world, right now, into a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defense each year and, instead, spend it feeding, clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would do many times over — not one human being excluded — and we can explore space together, both inner and outer, forever. In peace.

Props to The Maker of This Video – AWESOME!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a song/s in this platform. So here ya go. I’ve always noticed the background songs in the film, especially if they were good. What can I say, I have an ear for the movie soundtracks. Most of the time, I remember the film not because of its particular scene(s), but because of the song being played. It goes without saying that music plays an important role in conveying an emotional attachment from the scene we were watching.

Watching films to relieve stress: definitely works for me. You would find me watching films before hitting the sack. This time, I’ve decided to re-watch the Contact. It was a film adaptation of Carl Sagan’s sci-fi novel, and was considered as one of the most powerful movies of the decade. See for yourself. Nope, not going to review this film, nor I won’t talk about those inspiring scenes. I just want to tell you my top song picked from the movie. When I heard the lyric goes “I want to be a spaceman… hey mother Earth would you bring me back down safety to the sea… ♪♫ I fell in love with the song right off the bat. So I dig on YouTube and Google for the lyrics to fill me up. YouTube never disappoints me and gave me this amazing video. Props to the maker of this video dated Oct.2014 – It was awesome!! And clearly as he/she stated in the video introduction, he had a hard time compiling those footages. So good job, man. Also, thanks as I enjoyed it. CHEERS!

Spaceman – Harry Nilsson

Bang, bang, shoot ’em up, destiny Bang, bang, shoot ’em up to the moon Bang, bang, shoot ’em up one, two, three (One, two, three, four!)

I wanted to be a spaceman That’s what I wanted to be But now that I am a spaceman Nobody cares about me

Hey mother earth Won’tchu bring me back down, safely to the sea? But ’round and around and around and around Is all she ever say to me

I wanted to make a good run I wanted to go to the moon I knew that it had to be fun I told ’em to send me real soon

I wanted to be a spaceman I wanted to be it so bad But now that I am a spaceman I’d rather be back on the pad

Hey mother earth Won’tchu bring me back down, safely to the sea? ‘Round and around and around and around Is just a lot of lunacy (Yeah! Yeah!)

‘Round and around and around and around and around (So bring me back down) ‘Round and around and around and around and around Safe on the ground

Hey mother earth Won’tchu bring me back down, safely to the sea? But ’round and around and around and around Is all she ever say to me, yeah

You know I wanted to be a spaceman That’s what I wanted to be But now that I am a spaceman Nobody cares about me

Say, hey! You mother earth You better bring me back down I’ve taken just as much as I can ‘Round and around and around and around Is the problem of a spaceman

Even Carl was amazed
